Before getting on with the rant, with this post, I hope to be come a newer, bolder, and more dedicated member of the zombie army of users that is Newgrounds. I'm level 16 at this time, I've been here for over 2 years as a signed up user and easily a decade as a guest user..and I never post anything! Today the bitching starts, and the procrastinating and pussification ends. What this could mean for you is love, hate, anger, agreement, an entire multitude of possible emotions that will be erupted by my entries. Nevertheless, enjoy!
Aids Day 2009
I seldom watch the news, and when I do it's normally on the 'net and it's normally for the bizarre stories that catch my attention that they won't mention on "respectable" news agencies(thank God for Reddit and The Onion). Another source of news for me is the occasionally dynamic Google homepage, that we all very well know changes to a nice theme for holidays, and even teaches us of holidays and dates we never really knew about or acknowledged, but as I was browsing the other day I see this link for "Aids Day 2009" or something along those lines, and it highlighted many of the events and news posts surrounding Aids awareness, as well as a live concert on youtube with Alicia Keys, etc.
I love Google, there's hardly an hour that goes by in my computer life that I don't use a Google service for something, but what has always gotten me about Google is how damn socially conforming they are. They're already well on their way to being on top of the entire technology world, if they aren't there already, and they got there by delivering kick ass services and continuing a tradition of doing so, they don't need to become green-peace-liberal-agenda'd-hippie-pu ssified excuses for developers.
If someone on the Google employment list falls upon the above paragraph, please do take it to heart, but don't delete my Gmail, I still love you guys and will use you...begrudgingly. It's like taking advantage of a charity though you know the people who run it are complete douche bags just because you love free stuff.
Do we REALLY need an Aids awareness holiday? Society knows very well about aids, it's in the news every week, and it has some kids literally scared of fucking, (not very many but I'm sure there are a handful). Millions upon millions of dollars were spent by multiple corporate and news entities the world over (mostly USA) to bring awareness of not only Aids but this holiday, when everybody already knows about it and research is ongoing to fight it and possibly find a cure.
What I am really getting at is WHY must this nation be all PREACH and no ACTION, all BARK and no BITE? Why are millions more spent on making already-aware Aids than is spent and donated into research?! Why? One thing; Positive publicity.
Aids is tragic, I won't deny that, I have sympathy for anyone who obtained it inadvertently, and what I mean by that is either by consensual sex or rape...Nobody deserves Aids, but if you don't have your partner checked before sticking or receiving it, that's your own fault. For those who have been raped or had sex with a partner whom you thought was clean and loved, I can understand that, we all make mistakes. Sex-curious of the world, don't be afraid of sex! But don't be afraid of a checkup either or afraid of staying a virgin, in fact, if you really feel the need to do it, find another virgin to do it with, and it might not be the most magical experience you'd expect it to be because you'd both could be complete rookies at it, but hey; you're better off safe than sorry.
